I'm heading down south to the Gulf Coast region of the US (current temp mid-60's!!!!) where the hurricane-ravaged areas are still picking up the pieces, pushing through the rubble and rubbish, and trying to make sense of what happened and is still happening.

It's just a quick trip...today through next Tuesday. Six of us are a team of "storytellers" going down to immerse ourselves in the service, perspective, stories and experience of life after the storm. Sent by our church Mars Hill, we'll be coming alongside people in Hancock County, Mississippi, and keeping our eyes and ears open to see and hear God in the midst of this tragedy.

With the craziness of the past several weeks, I'm quite frazzled and tired, not "thrilled" about going, actually feeling the weight of both my own selfishness and knowing (yet not knowing) that what I'll face tomorrow when we get there is going to be overwhelming indeed. I pray that during the 16 hour car ride, I can unwind and allow my heart space to be made humble and servant-like again, rather than how I feel know, which is irritable, tired, selfish, wanting-aloneness.

Please keep me (and the whole team and others serving down there) in your prayers over the next several days. Pray that God will reveal to us what needs to be communicated to the larger Mars Hill (and beyond) community, and that He would allow us to serve and encourage those who are living this hell of utter devastation.

Faith, Mike and I were in Gulfport the 2nd week of September as part of an independent work team; Mike went back down again in November with a YFC; CJ worked with Campus Crusade For Christ's Valor Program in Pass Christan at Fort Kessler over Thanksgiving; and Mike, Luke and CJ will go down to do more work in January 2006 before CJ needs to return to college.

Every little bit helps.

I'm not sure if words will ever adequately describe the desolation and despair that we saw in the eyes of the people. Yet in the midst of this horrible situation, their optimism and gratitude was abundant.

It is definitely a privilege to serve God in this manner.

I'll be praying for you. Pam
