gone on holiday

Last week I took a much-needed holiday.

I slept in, raked the yard (and jumped in the leaves), cleaned the house, ran errands, visited my family and nephews, visited with friends who I haven't seen for awhile, generally did what I wanted and haven't had time to do lately. Of course the time ran by quickly, but not without great fun and a good sense of being relaxed and happy and simply enjoying life and people.

I think America needs to incorporate more holiday time. We need to learn how to take things a bit slower and enjoy a cup of tea (or other beverages of choice) and good company.

One highlight from my time off was that I got to go flying. It was just a hired colour tour from the local airport, but we rode in a little Cessna 172

...me, my brother, and two of my nephews. The great news is that I didn't get sick (refer to previous post)! The flight was only about 25 minutes, but hey, it's a step!

Here are some great pics from that little autumn adventure!

Me and Dustin...he loved it! His first time flying.

I took Darren up specially for his birthday...he loved it too...fearless!

Over rural mid-west Michigan, it was a fantastic, splendid, perfect day...very calm too!

If you click on the image you can see it big and zoom in to see my sister's house (the one with the blue trampoline in the yard, almost right in the center of the photo), she waved to us from the yard and she said she saw us waving at her from the plane. Cool!

What a glorious day! Here's my favorite photo from that quick flight, and it's currently on my desktop because it's such an amazing photo...captures so much, autumn colors, serenity, adventure, quiet, beauty, longings:

I absolutely love the perspective that flying gives to the rest of life.

The next time you go up, take your mom along! So glad you got to fly! I know your heart does a leap when you see those little planes fly above you. For once, you were actually in one!

"Were you on holiday?" [knitting]
"No, Babs, I was in solitary confinement."
"It's nice to get a little time to yourself." [knitting]

Ah, gotta love Brit-talking chickens.

Awesome! I also loved your thought: "I absolutely love the perspective that flying gives to the rest of life." I really don't like flying that much, but I always do love to see a heavenly view of this earth... makes our troubles seem smaller and more manageable when we can see them from God's perspective. There is always a much bigger picture going on that what our limited vision will allow us to see in our day to day.
Bless You!
