the new year phenomenon
There's something about a new year, the clock flipping over and you know that something is different, there's a newness and energy and anticipation. Yesterday, a friend and I were talking about this mentality of new starts in the new year and he said, "Why does it always take a new year to bring up these thoughts? Why don't we think like that all the time?" A good thought to think about...why don't we wake up each morning with a freshness and clean slate, a new start, anticipation for what is to come? Dates are only numbers to mark off our time-bound earthly lives, anyway. What if we celebrated a new month or a new day with noise-makers and silly hats and champagne and singing and enjoying our friends and families?I think it would change a lot of our day-to-day lives if we did live that way. Celebrating each day as it comes. Reflecting on the past and anticipating the future. Something I think God would be pleased to see more of, His people celebrating each day He gives us. Something to ponder...
