Explosions, fire and guns

This weekend I was at my friends' house for our house church meeting. We were sitting around sharing prayer requests and just chatting when all of a sudden this deafening noise combined with a flashing blue-green-orange light and a buzzing sound that seemed to get closer and closer drastically interrupted our peaceful, happy time. We all jumped in our seats and grabbed each other in shock, not knowing what was happening and wondering if we were all about to blow up.

The power went out and after the outside flickering lights stopped, we ran to the windows to see what we could see...suddenly the flashing and buzzing started again and we hit the deck. With hearts pounding in our chests, we crept to the windows again and saw downed power lines across the street and some trees sparking flames as the lines leaned up against them. Upon further investigation (from higher up windows) we also saw a telephone pole snapped near the top, and hanging precariously by its wires and perhaps a bit of the pole that was now ablaze.

We called 911 of course, and firetrucks got to the scene almost instantly. Quick response, good on ya, fireguys! :-) Well, seeing it was an electrical fire, the firemen couldn't do a darn thing but close off the road, to which stupid gawkers still tried to make their way to the flashing lights only to have to turn around in my friends' driveway and nearly hit our cars parked along the snowy road. Consumers Power is a bit slower on the response time, so nearly 2 hours later, the fire on the pole was still going and the pole was still precariously hanging there....oh how I wanted to see it fall...that would have been really exciting! But we hung around my friends' house while they packed up stuff to stay elsewhere as their home was rendered powerless and heatless. We made our way outside and left the scene. It was drizzling a nasty, cold rain.

As we drove out, the nice fireman held up the danger tape so we could get through the blockade. I'm not sure what happened to cause the explosion and fire, but it's made for a great story! :-)
What an exciting house church!

And there were no guns involved, I only put that because Topher said I don't have exciting things like "explosions, guns...etc" on my site. SO there, Topher! :-)

I heard Dr. Dobson's program today about the difference between girls and boys. And Topher's comment about needing guns and exposives proves Dr. Dobson's point! Boys are different! And aren't we all glad for that? :)
