three months to the day...
...since I last updated this here blog! But hey, in those three months, I hosted a dear friend from England (shout out to Anna!), moved into a new apartment, finalized wedding details, GOT MARRIED, went on a wonderful honeymoon in the Western mountains of Maryland, began settling into married life, started a temp job at Burch Fabrics, got hired and went through training at Starbucks. So, I've been a bit busy!
A few Reflections:
~ Even within a few weeks after my wedding, people started calling me "old"...the oddest thing. so was i "young" before the wedding, and being married makes me suddenly "old"? "How's the old married lady?" It's puzzling to me; if anyone has insight into this phenomenon, please do share!
~ Being a one-car family poses interesting situations, especially the three weeks when i was working 1st shift at the temp job and John was working 2nd shift at his work...so John would have to wake up early to take me to work, then he'd drive the car to his work, then I'd catch a bus to his work, then take the car home, then pick him up late at night...whew. It was a bit difficult not seeing each other very much for several weeks, but we survived and learned from it and found ways to have fun in the midst of it.
~ Being a woman and going through all the name change details is a lot to think about! besides just learning to write a new last name (which come on girls, we've been practicing writing our names with every crush's last name since at least junior high! haha), there's the whole mess of bank accounts, social security card, drivers license, credit cards, phone companies, utilities, insane number of non-profit organizations whose mailing lists somehow I've joined in recent years, schools and churches, online accounts, employers, and probably others I've forgotten. The in between time was a bit awkward, when I didn't yet have my official government info changed but the marriage license said my new name...so sometimes I'd have to say or sign my maiden name, and sometimes my new married name, and it was a bit of an identity crisis...either way I felt sort-of like I was lying about my name. Sheesh! I think I've basically changed everything over now, but it's still quite a strange adjustment to suddenly have a different name after 26+ years. I'm getting used to it, and am starting to like my new signature and how my new name rolls of the tongue. :-) I really do like my new last name too!
...mmmm enjoying my Starbucks Grande Caramel Macchiato while getting ready! Little did I know that not even a month later I'd be offered a job there! Yay! Thanks Bauer for the connections!...

...just before saying our vows...

...at Weverton Cliffs overlooking the Potomac River...
So there's a bit of an update from me. The next couple months will be filled with continued settling into married life along with the usual holiday busyness, and the new twist of our own new family plus the in-laws. Fun times! I love Christmastime! And we're also working on some future ideas/plans for a really awesome mission opportunity; so please be in prayer for that process. Thanks friends! Happy Thanksgiving (and Christmas and New Year, if I don't get around to updating for another few months! haha!)
