"accidental" ministry
It wasn't intentional living by any means. It was actually inspired by a warm thought of doing something nice for my boyfriend by having his sister bring me a book he wanted to read. So I went to the Warehouse, where Calvary's youth group meets, to get the book. I suddenly found myself amongst middle and high school aged kids, who were laughing and being teenagers. I had memories of my own youth group days, and memories of my college days when I was a leader for middle and high schoolers. My intention was just to get the book and leave, but I started chatting and then was invited to stay for singing and then stayed on to hear the teaching (which was on decision-making and God's will...hmm, quite pertinent to my life). By the end of it, I was sitting at a table with 9 middle school girls (11-13 year olds...one of my favorite age groups) chatting about the teaching and hearing prayer requests and praying together. I met 9 new friends at youth group tonight, and was able to step in to fill a need as a leader, and accidentally did ministry.
And I loved it. And I want more. Accidental and intentional ministry!
Then the next day, the sun enticed me to go for a run, and as I stopped on the bridge for a break, I encountered three more middle school girls, one of them in distress because she had just cut her hand. I offered my assistance to walk her bike back with them to their house. Again I had intended one thing, and God brought ministry opportunities my way. What a wonderful thing to be instruments in His hands, allowing Him to move us and use us wherever He chooses.
Bring on more of it!
Today I had a job interview at the local newspaper office. I'm hopeful, but resting assured that if God desires to use me as an instrument in that place of employment, He'll move me and use me there. As for today, I'm planning on doing some reading, enjoying the gorgeous sunny day, going for ice cream with a widow from my church and going out on the town with my brother's girlfriend while our boyfriends are away on a men's retreat.
How my life has changed since I learned that ALL OF LIFE can be and IS Gospel Ministry! What great fun!

Exciting news! I hope you hear soon on that interview, if you haven't already. Hope God puts more opportunities for ministry in your path, too! :) Don't be a stranger. ;) Love you.
(Listening to Cara Dillon at work today, kinda fits the weather.)
