A Day with Missionaries
Yesterday I spent the day with Joey and Suzanne, missionaries to help rebuild war-torn Congo (DRC) with Mission Aviation Fellowship, an awesome ministry that serves in the wild, remote, and cut-off places of the world. It's a God-thing story how we met, and makes me wonder what any longer-term reasons may exist in the meeting.Through my work, I come in contact with many mission groups and what they're doing around the world. Some groups resonate with my heart more than others, and MAF is one of those...it's just so unique and creative and adventurous and needed, and so many other mission groups are enabled to do their work because of what MAF does. So awesome! Anyway, so I heard about MAF's Coffee Fellowship fundraising event, and signed up to help out and host a coffee. In wanting to make it the best it could be, I had the idea to get "real, live" MAF people to come and be able to talk about it. So, I got in contact with the MAF coordinators for the Coffees, and they sent out an email, which Joey and Suzanne replied to...and the rest is history.
I took them to Meijer Gardens and saw the butterflies - very nice. It was especially fun to hang out with them, because they are my age and we could relate on the same level. Anyway, the Coffee Fellowship in the evening went quite well, and I learned quite a lot and was encouraged at what all MAF does.
And my heart stirred more for refugees, seeing pictures of the refugee camps and calling to mind Scriptures about the poor, oppressed, downtrodden, orphan and widow...and how God loves and defends and cares for them. Justice and mercy...that resonates with my heart as well.
Who has known the mind of God? Who knows the path of the wind? Who of us knows even the course of our own lives, what God has prepared for us to do? My response can only be willingness, readiness, and faithfulness here and now and wherever He leads.
