theology of snow
the other morning as i went out to my car, i stepped out of my house to see everything covered in snow and it was still falling. i was about to get into a bad attitude about the snow being back when i realized the muffled quiet of a pre-dawn morning, blanketed with snow. highway 131 is just across the river from my house and normally the constant hum of morning traffic can be heard, yet not that morning. it was cold but i relished the peace and paused to enjoy the stillness of the morning. it gave me energy and a sense of freshness for the day and instead of complaining, i praised.this morning i finally got to sleep in-- oh what wonders 10 hours of sleep will do! -- it was a bit overcast and although the sun was up it hadn't broken through the clouds yet. as i readied for the day, the brightness of slivers of sun reflected off the light dusting of snow on everything. with the extra sleep and the morning sun and my cup of coffee, i was happy. driving along the roads of west michigan to visit my family and help some friends tear down their barn, i turned up my music and sipped my coffee, with the sun making everything sparkle and shine. dressed in my ripped-jeans and bandana work-clothes, this is a good day. being greeted with kisses and hugs from my nephews, this is a good day. feeling alive and refreshed, this is a good day. with the reminder that God's love and grace makes my scarlet sins as white as snow, this is a good day.
may your day be one dusted with the refreshment and goodness of snow...and all of God's creation that reflects His grace and goodness.

You know that part in POTC where a pirate says "Just so we're ready when the time comes", me and Katie just looked at each other and laughed. I still think it sounded like Paul Kemp! :)
