my holiday weekend

Some words to describe my weekend:
away from the city ~ nature ~ unwinding ~ lighthouse ~ gorgeous weather ~ alone time ~ the sound of the wind in trees ~ hearing nature again ~ sunburn ~ thunderstorms ~ countless stars ~ awestruck ~ sunset ~ campfire ~ smell of white pines ~ mosquito bites ~ raking leaves ~ barn raising ~ painting ~ smell of sawed lumber ~ building a pasture fence ~ walking in the woods ~ sitting by the lake ~ blisters ~ singing ~ space to breathe ~ laughter ~ freedom ~ hard work ~ fulfilling work ~ stirred up ~ spurred on toward Christ ~ cultivating hope ~ celebrating our Great God ~ "Christ in you, the Hope of glory" ~ waiting ~ conversations with Jesus ~ stargazing at midnight, sitting on the wooden fence I helped build, orange sliver of the setting moon, a ga-zillion stars, hands held high, alone with the Creator, God of wonders ~ refreshed ~ well-spent ~ friends ~ family ~ new connections ~ missions & ministry ~ alive ~ satisfied ~

It was a very good weekend. Almost dreamlike, other-world-like. Highly enjoyed. Trying to hold onto what it was that made me come alive and bring that back to the city in which I live. I don't realize in the day-to-dayness of life how much the city winds me up, and I forget how much I love being out in the wild countryside. Planning to make it a regular habit to get out of this crazy swirl of citylife--always thinking ahead, fast-forwardly, the next thing--and get into the quiet and beauty of the wilderness. Need that to reawaken my soul.

Also, last night, I had a good, long talk with my dear friend Moriah. She's boarding a plane today and flying away to South Asia, and my heart feels the pinch of HOMEsickness again. Such is the life we live, strangers on this earth, longing for our true HOME, Christ.
