on my mind lately

On a random invitation from my friend Carrie, and because I never have before, and because I am able, I've been thinking about doing the 5th/3rd Riverbank 5K run in May. With the new thoughts and mustard seed faith of one trusting in God's power to change me, I think training for the run will be a symbol of the discipline I'm aiming for.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. ~ 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Interesting to note that in the context of this section (1 Corinthians 9) is also the discussion about doing all things for the sake of the Gospel...this is very much a central focus and pondering of my heart and mind lately. Excited to be making connections and seeing God work and being able to practically enact it through this run.

Bill and I just got back from Inverness, Scotland. Bill said that your family (Fraser side) was from there? If that's right then you must be related to the majority of the population... there were a ton of Fraser's. =)

Wohoo! The Riverbank Run! I've never made it in, but I've trained for it (stupid shin splints!) I highly recommend the training...I found it to be spiritually challenging/displining to put my body through that controlled training. I memorized various verses about running and would say them to myself when I felt like quitting before the training session was done (you know, to distract myself from the thoughts of "I'm tired! I want to stop! I'm going to die!" :-)) There are a surprising number of verses about running.

Excited to hear you're thinking of this! Three cheers for friends who randomly invite others to join in the race!
